White Bread

Ahh~~ here's a fresh loaf of white bread made with the help from my breadmaker, a gift from hubby for my birthday recently :) As for the recipe, I got it from the recipe book which was a gift from my best friend Yvonne :)

Here's the recipe:

30-35ml lukewarm water
1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
225ml lukewarm milk (can be replace with water)
15 gm butter/margarine at room temperature
1 tsp salt
400-450gm bread flour

Method:

1) Combine water, dry yeast & 1/2 tbsp sugar and leave to stand for 15mins or till mixture is frothy.
2) Pour the milk into a large bowl, add the remaining sugar, butter & salt. Stir in the yeast mixture.
3) Stir in flour a little at a time, until a stiff dough is form. You may use a food processor or bread machine as an alternative (which I did).
4) Transfer the dough on floured surface and knead till a smooth and elastic dough is obtain. *I use the bread machine for this step.*
5) Place the dough in a large bowl, cover & leave to rise till double the size.
6) Punch down the risen dough, and form it into a loaf shape. Place it in a 9x5" tins. Let it rise till double the size.
7) Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C for 40-50mins until firm & brown.

Note: the loaf weight approx 670-700gm

A trip to Sg. Lembing, Kuantan (Oct 2009) part 2

We actually stayed there for 1 night and the next morning at 5am we get ready to ascend up the Panorama Hill. Reached the hill around 5:10am and there is already a lot of people there who come all the way just to go up the hill. We started to ascend and reach the peak around 6:10am. Along the way up there are steps and dirt road but if you ask me I would rather prefer the dirt road as it is not so tiring to walk on dirt road compare to walking up the staircase. But the view is really worth it.

By around 7am we starts to descend down & once again as I said earlier, the view is also very nice with all the 云海 it really makes you feel like you are somewhere between the clouds. I guess this is what we all meant by being on cloud 9, hahaha. And of course going down is definitely faster and easier than going up time :p

After that we went to the market for their famous Sg. Lembing tofu where it was sold by 1 lady at the stall. And I must say, it really earns its name as it is very very tasty and smooth. There after we continue to a small waterfall near our guest house before we head back to KL. This is not the Rainbow Waterfall but still the area is quite nice and the water is very very cooling. We really had a good time in Sg. Lembing. For those who like hiking & nature, this is recommended.

oh... before I forget one last very interesting & important thing. In this small town they do have petrol station but you will be surprise at the look of it.
This is the one & only petrol station. Yup if you don't pay attention, you will pass it as a bus stop or something like that. And take a closer look at the following pictures, the pump is actually being locked with a pad lock and it only open for few hours a day so take a good look at the last picture where the timing is all written on it. Oh & remember this, they do not operate on Sunday & Public Holiday. So my advise is go & fill up your car before you enter into the Kuantan Toll Gate.

A trip to Sg. Lembing, Kuantan (Oct 2009) part 1

It's been quite sometime since I last update my blog. Due to the change in my working life and the busy new life.. I have to put a side my blogging for a couple of months. So for a start, here's the trip that I went with my family early Oct 2009 to Sungai Lembing in Kuantan.

Sungai Lembing town is a small village located 30km from the Kuantan toll gate. When you first see this small town you might think that this is just another small village with nothing much to do & see. But you are wrong, this small town is famous for its 山水 tofu where the tofu is made from the natural spring water from the mountain. The tofu is very soft & tasty not like those that we ate here. This place is also famous for its Panorama Hill where you can watch the sunrise at the peak of the hill and the sea of clouds (云海) as you descend from the hill. Apart from that, there is also one more famous attraction there which is the Rainbow Waterfall. It is call the Rainbow Waterfall due to the fact that when the water gush down from the waterfall added on with the sunlight, making the rainbow to appear at the waterfall itself. However, on this trip we were not able to go for that as you need a guide to take you there and not suitable for children who are too young as the journey to climb up the waterfall is quite tough.

Oh... and good news to those pork lover, as this small town is also very very famous for this one particular roasted pork. The whole pig is being roasted by this particular operator at the back of their house. Every evening they will roast a few pigs and all will be sold off (& not to mentioned those who consume it on the spot while its still hot & crunchy) in less than 2hrs. The pigs is actually roasted in an underground pit and the taste I must agree is very nice.. :p

The accommodation there is also very affordable. It only cost us RM60 per room night and the room comes with aircond and attached bathroom with water heater. However, lunch at normal restaurant (we consider it coffee shop in KL) there is extremely expensive. Why I say so? Cause it cost us RM80++ for 1 small fish, 1 tofu, 1 vegetable and 5rice + 1 pot of chinese tea. That's way more expensive than KL if you ask me.

Christmas Chocolate Cake

This is something I make for last X'mas. But until today only I have the time to upload it. The snowman & X'mas tree are all my own production using royal icing.

This is the up close of the snowman... while waiting for it to dry up.... looks ugly :p

This is the finishing result.

Tiramisu

This is the first time I ever tried making a Tiramisu cake. I have always thought it will be very very difficult to make one, but it turn out not too difficult after all (or at least the recipe I got is not that difficult :p) and also I used ready made sponge fingers hahaha so I guess that is the reason why I say it is easy as I have skipped one item to make ^^

But it did turn out quite well as I get a few ++ feedback for it... hehehe was so happy.

Orange Chiffon

This was bake yesterday with my niece for her mommy's (my eldest sister) 36th Birthday. She insisted on making the cake in heart shape and my sis already says no cream & topping so I figure this will be the best option... Orange Chiffon and top with strawberry as decoration. Simple and nice :) And I must say this, I give my self 90mark for this cake as this is the best chiffon I have ever made, the texture, taste, look all are good.. hehehe even my mom had 3 slices of this (of course chiffon is her favourite cake!)

Initially this is how the cake should look like... but my niece got very excited about putting the silver beads as deco so that is why u see some beads on the cake. Basically she have help out in almost every single process of baking this cake and mind you, she coated the strawberry all by herself.. and I am so proud of her :)

Kids can never keep secret when they are excited... or at least my niece is like that :D Insisted her mom to look at the cake once she's done with the beads...

Time to cut & eat up the cake... they sure have waited long enuf for this part to come :)

Chocolate Banana Cake

Friday, 23rd Oct 2009
This is the first time I make a dome cake but I kind of missed calculate so the dome is a little bit too high so it didn't turn out like the half sphere that I intended to. Once added in the layer of cream & bananas this is what happened.

Since this is a small cake so it is hard to fit in so much writing thus, I used the fondant to make the writing card below (the letters is done using white choc) as well as for his name on top.
