Was in the lift this morning and over heard two woman chatting and
A: I went to xx bookshop to buy alot of work book for my daughter to do this holiday
B: Me too but make sure the work book is not duplicate with the school la...
A: Ya, aiya my daughter tell me that day.. you want me to get at least 5A's then you better start buy me work book to do...
B: Ya lor should start...
Bla bla bla... and so on la... but while listening there I have this thought is it that important that kids must get all A's?? I have seen kids that was so pressure up to get A's that when they don't get it they break down and even go to the level of committing suicide. Why is parents pushing their children at this rate? Is it because of trend? or face? I mean yes of course every parents wants the best for their child but is this the best way?
I mean most important is that the child have done their best and at the same time parents must do their part in coaching them. Don't they realise they are robbing the child from their childhood by pressuring them with so much of A's and tuition and work books?? Sometime I really pitty all these kids. Don't they understand that there is something call learn through play?? Where by the kids can have fun and learn at the sametime? And learn through play is not something only applicable for kindergarten kids it goes all they way up even up to adult hood be it in study or working life.
I hope one day when I have chance to become a parent I will not repeat this with my kids. I prefer the way how my parents brought us up i.e. most important is that we have done our very best...
